A group of scientists from Denmark has developed a crystalline material that allows something to impensando today, closer to a superpower of fiction than a human capacity: breathe underwater; in tribute to its inevitable reference in the world of superheroes, he was named simply "Crystal Aquaman".
This material extracts oxygen from water continuously and without using other resources, thanks to the action of the cobalt particles filtered water separating oxygen from hydrogen. Christine McKenzi, professor at the University of Southern Denmark and one of the responsible for the research, told The Science Daily that "this mechanism is well known by all the earthly creatures that breathe", referring to humans and other species iron use, while crustaceans, spiders and other small animals use copper.
"Small amounts of metals are essential for the absorption of oxygen, so it is not surprising to see that effect on our new material." It is believed that the glass could be Aquaman medicinal use in the development of treatments for people with breathing problems.
