A study recently published in the journal "Perspectives in Psychological Science" study explores the presence of DNA of other human beings in our bodies. Its authors, Peter Kramer and Paola Bressan, scientists at the University of Padua, explained: "We are not unitary individuals but superorganisms".

The article delves into this particular phenomenon called microchimerism (named after the mythological creature whose body is made up of parts of a lion, a goat and a snake), which is the presence of a body of other genetically different.

Evidence indicates that this DNA transfer can occur between mother and fetus, the fetus and one twin fetus, or the fetus and cellular debris of previous pregnancies of the mother. Particularly strange is the case of the woman who gave birth to children who were not genetically theirs, but the product of the ova of a twin sister that his body had absorbed in the womb.

But Kramer and Bressan hypothesis is even more radical. Scientists say these cells from other human beings have the ability to reproduce in such vital organs as the heart and brain, and the power to influence our behavior. This opens a new paradigm in understanding what psychiatry considers mental illness. There may be many more forces than we had seen struggling to manifest in an individual.
