On this day, in 1923, the English archaeologist Howard Carter entered the burial chamber of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun.

Many archaeologists had traveled to Egypt in the nineteenth century with the aim of discovering the tombs of the great pharaohs, which contained, in addition to its carefully preserved treasures bodies. Several tombs were found looted and stripped of their wealth long ago.

The archaeologist Howard Carter traveled to Egypt convinced that there was at least a tomb that had not been found: the unknown pharaoh Tutankhamun, who lived around 1400 BC and he died when he was still a teenager.

Your search was financed by the wealthy British Lord Carnarvon. In early 1922, seeing that the years passed without finding Carnarvon wanted to suspend the investigation, but the archaeologist persuaded to extend it for another year.

In late 1922, Carter's team found an ancient sealed gate, corresponding to the long-sought tomb of Tutankhamen. They entered the inner chamber on November 26, and were surprised to find it after more than 3000 years virtually intact. On February 16 they opened the last chamber. There, in addition to various treasures such as jewelry and statues of solid gold coffin containing the mummified body of the pharaoh they found.
